AMD Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs To Feature Full Overclocking Support In Addition To New 3D V-Cache Features

AMD’s Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs will feature full overclocking support at launch, marking a first for the 3D V-Cache chips.

AMD Is Finally Bringing Overclocking Support To Its 3D V-Cache Chips With Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs

AMD’s Ryzen chips featuring the 3D V-Cache technology have been regarded as some of the best gaming processors on the market. Across all gaming performance metrics and efficiency tests, the one chip that stands out from the rest is the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which has seen insane sales figures but with the next generation, AMD is expected to not only boost the out-of-the-box performance capabilities but also allow users to tweak them for even better experiences manually.

Before we dive into the details, let’s roll back to the first generation of 3D V-Cache CPUs, which started with the Zen 3-based Ryzen 5000 series. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D was the very first 3D V-Cache chip, featuring unmatched gaming value at the time. While the chip itself was great, the 3D V-Cache technology was still relatively new for the time and AMD had to be a bit conservative with its first rollout. Things like temperatures and voltages were managed precisely and no tuning options were available in the first generation.

With the second generation of 3D V-Cache chips which were introduced with the Zen 4-based 7000 series, AMD opened up a few tuning options for enthusiasts, allowing Precision Boost Overdrive & Curve Optimizer support along with EXPO memory overclocking capabilities. These chips proved to be a great follow-up to the Ryzen 5000X3D series and currently, you can find them at some nice discounts, perfect for new AM5 PC builders.

With the next generation, AMD has teased some cool new features for the Zen 5-powered Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs but we have managed to learn that among those features is full support for OC. Yes, that’s right, it’s not just PBO or CO tuning, enthusiasts on the AM5 platform will get full overclocking support with the next-gen 3D V-Cache CPUs. This suggests that AMD has fine-tuned the 3D V-Cache design for its chips, allowing users to overclock them as they see fit. There might still be a few checks in place to safeguard the fragile 3D stacks placed on top of each Zen 5 CCD but having manual OC capabilities is going to attract a lot of enthusiast overclockers to hop on the 3D V-Cache scene.

Besides these, there are still some new features that we are expecting to learn about in the coming weeks so stay tuned. As for memory overclocking and DDR5 support, we detailed that much in our last post which you can read here. The Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs are expected to launch close to the introduction of the 800-series (X870E/X870) boards which hit retail by the end of September.
