Gym enterprise LA Fitness has acquired the XSport Fitness brand, taking over management of all Chicago area XSport fitness centers.
XSport members received an email from the gym chain’s parent company Capital Fitness last week, detailing the acquisition, according to a post shared on social media.
“Capital Fitness (“XSport Fitness”) has made the decision to leave the health and fitness club business,” read the email. “As a result, we will be transitioning the operation of our clubs, including your home club, to Fitness International (LA Fitness).”
The announcement noted that all current XSport fitness and personal training memberships will be honored by LA Fitness, with no disruptions to access or increases in fees. Customers will reportedly also retain the same account and billing information.
XSport currently operates 9 gyms in Chicago including outposts in East Lakeview, South Loop, Old Town, and Logan Square. It is unclear if any of the 9 Chicago locations will cose in the merger.
XSport has gained a dedicated customer base in Chicago particularly for its 24-hour model, allowing for ample flexibility. On social media, some XSport members have voiced concerns that the 24-hour policy may not be honored under the acquisition. LA Fitness has not confirmed whether hours at the acquired gyms will change under their leadership.
