6 Least Expensive Places to Travel for Labor Day
Labor Day, or the unofficial end to summer, offers a chance for a final getaway before fall arrives with cooler temperatures and shorter days.
And there may be more good news – Labor Day is also a time when you can find good travel deals. Here’s a look at six inexpensive places to travel for the holiday weekend.
Orlando, Florida
- Average Price: $300 per person
If you want to avoid the big crowds (and heat) in Orlando during the height of summer, Labor Day may be your chance to explore the city with fewer crowds.
Even if theme parks aren’t your thing, Orlando offers other options, such as the Orlando Science Center or the Crayola Experience, to explore during a Labor Day getaway. You may also find much cheaper prices for hotels and flights than during peak summer days.
Cape Canaveral, Florida
- Average Price: $400 per person
It’s probably no surprise that another Florida city was on the list from Vacasa of affordable Labor Day Getaways. After all, Cape Canaveral is located on Florida’s Space Coast and is known for its fun offerings.
“Housing one of the busiest cruise terminals in the world, Cape Canaveral is not short of activities and things to do, including beaches, the Brevard Zoo and some of the best waterfront dining on the Space Coast,” according to Vacasa.
Boise, Idaho
- Average Price: $500 per person
You may want to consider a trip to Boise for your Labor Day. If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, the area has numerous mountains and hiking trails for you to enjoy.
According to Vacasa, “The city prides itself on being clean, vibrant, artistic and lively and promises visitors a good time, especially in its pedestrian-only downtown core.”
Washington, D.C.
- Average Price: $400 per person
Why not round out your summer with a trip to the nation’s capital? You may be surprised by how affordable this trip can be during the Labor Day weekend.
In addition to finding good deals on hotels and flights, you can take part in free activities including all the Smithsonian museums, and Arlington Cemetery is a quick metro ride away. Kayak also recommends the landmarks on the National Mall, such as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Washington Monument.
Atlantic City, New Jersey
- Average Price: $600 per person
You may be looking for a budget-friendly Labor Day vacation to the Northeast. If so, Kayak recommends Atlantic City.
As summer winds down, you can score some good hotel deals around the area. While you’re there, there are casino and dining options along with the amusement park along the famous Atlantic City boardwalk. And Atlantic City is a convenient location. If you’re looking for more activities, it’s a short drive to Philadelphia and Delaware (for some tax-free shopping).
New Orleans, Louisiana
- Average Price: $350 per person
When it comes to finding a good and affordable spot, it may be tough to beat New Orleans, which often finds itself on many budget-friendly lists for Labor Day travel.
If you’ve never been to the “Big Easy,” it’s a place known for good music and food. If you’re able to snag a great hotel deal, you can use some of that money you saved to enjoy world-famous dishes such as gumbo and crawfish or beignets at Cafe Du Monde.
