36 teens honored for completing the Boys & Girls Club of Kern County’s summer jobs program

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield Museum of Art honored 36 teens who completed a summer jobs program at various businesses around Kern.

Since 2013, the Boys & Girls Club of Kern County has paired teenagers with companies in the community, so they can learn what it’s like to work in that profession. 18 employers participated in the program this year, 17 News being one of them.

The program required interns to work 20 hours a week, learning all the ins-and-outs of the job. The summer job program ended with a graduation ceremony Friday at the BMoA.

Among the students, Zane Rock, reflected on his time at KGET.

“I got to learn a lot about news, I was one of those kids that thought news was easy and they make a lot of money because they’re on tv, they’re behind the scenes, but news is not easy. The newsroom is very complicated, it’s very fast paced,” Rock said.
