120-unit apartment complex, go-kart track planned for Mill Run shopping center
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A five-acre section of Mill Run that was formerly home to Movies 11 is closer to getting apartments and a nearby indoor go-kart track.
Dune Companies, a development firm based in Dublin, submitted zoning applications to the City of Columbus to build a 120-unit apartment complex at 3755-3799 Ridge Mill Drive.
Plans for the lot include four apartment buildings, none more than three stories tall, each accompanied by a surface parking lot. A rendering for the site also displays a three garages throughout the property, a clubhouse and a pool. The site plans were approved by the city’s Development Commission this month, but await final approval from city council.
The Dublin-based firm submitted a different proposal for the site last year that was approved by the city. The plan called for a 235-unit complex with three apartment buildings, mostly four stories tall, along with 1,800 square feet of retail. The current zoning application states changes in market conditions over the past year have made the previous proposal no longer “economically viable.”
To make room for the new apartments, Movies 11 at Mill Run, which occupied its space for over three decades, closed this past July. The owner of the complex, MGM Mill Run, submitted a demolition application for the property in May 2023.
Additionally, after previously stating an indoor electric kart racing company showed interest in a property in the center, the Robert Weiler Company confirmed to NBC4 that they closed a sale with K1 Speed. The karting company has plans to open at 3700 Fishinger Boulevard, but an opening date has not yet been announced.
“At K1 Speed Columbus, we can provide you with an unforgettable, adrenaline-pumping experience,” the company’s website reads. “Our indoor karting center is unlike any other go-kart track you’ve been to before. Unlike the go-kart track at your local miniature golf course, our tracks are professionally designed, fully enclosed for racing in rain or shine, and well maintained.”
K1 Speed’s karts are capable of reaching 45 mph, according to its website. The Columbus location will also feature a restaurant-style lounge, arcade and meeting room.
Nearby, a pedestrian bridge is also in progress. The overpass will connect Hilliard to the Scioto River and use the existing walking paths in Mill Run. Construction is expected to begin in 2026.
