LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Automotive supplier Gestamp will expand its location in Mason, a move that will bring 100 new jobs to the area, the company announced Tuesday at the Select USA Investment Summit in Washington, D.C.

This announcement was part of a larger series of projects to create jobs and housing around the state of Michigan.

“Today’s projects, which create up to 580 new jobs and 130 residential units, reflect our commitment to showing the world that anyone and any business can ‘Make It in Michigan,’” said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. “Let’s continue to work together to revitalize and increase housing in our great cities while supporting the expansion of companies who helped build Michigan into the automotive powerhouse it is.”

The expansion of Gestamp’s Mason location will secure advanced machinery and equipment for the location, but officials have yet to publish a timeline on when the expansion will take place, or how long it will be until the new jobs are open for application.

Gestamp had been working with the Lansing Economic Area Partnership, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, and the City of Mason for over a year to bring this expansion to the area.

“The latest expansion by Gestamp of their Mason facility is very exciting. We appreciate their continued commitment to the Lansing region which will further enhance the local tax base while improving employment opportunities,” said Mason Mayor Russell Whipple. “Gestamp is the manufacturing anchor for the tax base and as such, a very important asset in the city. The City of Mason looks forward to continuing our collaborative relationship with Gestamp.”
